1520 Kensington Ave Fort Wayne, IN
Contact Lauren Hale at 260-438-6716

Jordan Saalfrank; a social worker, birth doula, childbirth educator and Healing4Birth creator will be speaking at ICAN's March meeting. Jordan will be talking about traumatic birth and how families can work to heal from a past negative birth experience. She will also be sharing information on how a history of abuse can impact a women's birth and breastfeeding relationship. Participants will come away with strategies on how to move through a traumatic birth experience as well as ways to help prepare for the next birth.

The International Cesarean Awareness Network Inc. (ICAN) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve maternal-child health by preventing unnecessary cesareans through education, providing support for cesarean recovery, and promoting vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC).
As a local chapter we seek to serve the needs of the women who come to us, including help with local birth and VBAC issues, providing a safe space to process our birth experiences, and promoting cesarean awareness.

Doula! Film

DOULA! The Ultimate Birth Companion
CITYOGA -Indianapolis
Saturday, March 24, 2012 5:30pm

DOULA! The Ultimate Birth Companion is a new 60 minute documentary-style film about the work of birth and postnatal doulas. The film intimately captures in close-up detail the practical and emotional support given to the parents by their doula at each stage of their unique birthing journey.

The film includes footage of three positive, emotional and extremely moving doula-supported births (two home water births and a birth that progresses to a Caesarean section). There is also a separate section on the work of two postnatal doulas working to help the new parents’ transition to life with new babies.

Movie in 1 Week

Birth Matters proudly presents a special screening of ...

MORE Business of Being Born
Explore Your Options: Doulas, Birth Centers & C-Sections

Friday, March 9, 2012
6:30pm - 9:30pm (doors open at 6pm)
Downtown Allen County Library Theater

This is episode #3 of MORE Business of Being Born, Ricki Lake and Abby Epstein's powerful follow-up to their landmark documentary, The Business of Being Born. In 2008, Birth Matters hosted a screening of that event, too, and we look forward to this one being just as successful and influential to our local birthing community!
Doors open at 6:00pm, show starts at 6:30pm. There are no reserved seats, so arrive early. The movie is just over 100 minutes long.

A panel discussion/Q&A will immediately follow the movie, and a wine and cheese reception will follow that.

If tickets do not sell out in advance, they'll be available at the door ($15.00/adult, $7.50/child), payable by cash or check. Due to limited seating capacity and space constraints, we recommend babies in arms.

Even though the documentary is not rated and does not officially require parental guidance, parents should be aware that it does contain mature content.
