VBAC Class

Register NOW for this week's VBAC Prep. class!! It is a class for families who've had a cesarean and want to be pregnant again, are not sure whether or not they will have more kids -- but would like to hear evidence-based information and weigh the options, or are currently pregnant and need to prepare for navigating the journey.
Birth Matters' VBAC Preparation Class class is for pregnant or non-pregnant families looking to investigate their options for having a Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC).  This class is open to women who have had a previous cesarean birth and their partners.  We encourage both to attend but partners are not required to do so.

The class covers all of the relevant topics for families who have experienced cesarean birth(s) and are considering the option of a vaginal delivery for their next one.

Class is taught by Jordan Smith Saalfrank (www.healingforbirth.com) -  a birth doula with 10 years experience, Childbirth Educator and Masters level Social Worker.

Got Milk? Please Donate!

Why Donate?

One in eight babies is born premature (March of Dimes Peristats, 2010). Premature or ill infants are at a much higher risk for devastating infections if they are fed formula instead of human milk. These haunting statistics, combined with our belief that human milk is the optimal form of nutrition and immunologic protection for babies, is the reason for what we do. To say it best, human milk fights infection while providing ideal nutrition. However, a mother may not be able to provide this precious resource because:
Premature delivery can cause delayed milk production or an insufficient supply

  1. She has delivered multiples (i.e. twins or triplets)
  2. The stress of hospitalization or other complications have impeded her ability to hold or directly nurse her baby.
  3. She requires medications that may pass into her milk and are potentially harmful to the infant.
  4. She has an infection or complications temporarily affecting her milk supply
  5. She has adopted a baby.

We recognize the time, effort, and love you have put into pumping, labeling, and freezing your milk. If you have extra, please share this amazing resource!

Mom’s own milk is always ideal for the baby – but when this is not available, human milk donations from generous mothers like you are the next best option. Organizations like the American Academy of Pediatrics and the World Health Organization agree! IMMB follows strict screening, processing, and dispensing guidelines established by the Human Milk Banking Association of North America (HMBANA) to ensure the safety of pasteurized donor human milk (PDHM). Babies may receive PDHM because of the following:

  1. Preterm birth
  2. Failure to thrive
  3. Malabsorption syndromes
  4. Allergies
  5. Feeding/formula intolerance
  6. Immunologic deficiencies
  7. Pre- or Post-operative nutrition
  8. Infectious diseases

This is the current state of affairs as of July 16, 2012.

We do not have enough Milk to make it through the week. Please call or email if you can help (317) 535-1670 or chawhins@immb.org

Birth Photography

Hi everyone! I'm Jeri Hoag and I am a pro photographer located in Goshen, IN that specializes in documentary birth photography covering the Michiana area including birth center, hospital or home births. I also specialize in

phy has always been a passion of mine since my high school and college years, but I kept it as a hobby until the summer of 2008, about one year after giving birth to my third child. This is when I realized that I had already forgotten some of those precious moments from his birth and the few images my husband captured for me didn’t include him since he was behind the camera. It hit me then that those moments are fleeting and I wanted to capture them for other women experiencing the miracle of birth. I thought, why not offer birth photography? After all, giving birth to your child is one of the most amazing, life-changing experiences of your life. Birth Professionals Gathering-Michigan

It is once again time to meet together, to meet and encourage each other. This meeting is open to anybody with an interest in the world of birth: doulas, midwives, LLL leaders, massage therapists, birth educators, etc. Anybody who is passionate about supporting and encouraging natural childbirth and looking for a community of like- minded people.

We fit pretty nicely into the Brunson Hill Art House, so we shall be
meeting there again.
It is a red and green house with steps leading up to the front door.
Call if you get lost: 269-926-2334.

Let's bring food to share again.

Last time I had thought it would be interesting if each of us also
brought something to share briefly: a current birth-field piece of
legislation update, a new-to-you technique for some aspect of labor, a
helpful way of dealing with common pregnancy complaints, etc. We
ended up having plenty to discuss without these added topics, but it's
always good to share new information when it comes out. We may not
get to everyone's or anyone's piece of information, or there may be
some overlap. It will just be good to go home knowing something new.
Again, if we fill the time just fellowshipping, that's entirely
To summarize:
July 26
6 pm
Bring a dish to pass
Bring a piece of information to share briefly

Please RSVP

Hope to see you all there! And do talk to others who should be
there. I know previously I thought I contacted everyone, but I hadn't ,
so some people didn't find out about it until too late.
